When we learned about the new project from SpectraSoul’s Jack Stevens a few weeks back, we knew something big and forward-thinking was on its way. We heard the first Workforce tune in the form of “Don’t Tell,” a coarse, rough-around-the-edges number for the dancefloor that deviates from the typical SpectraSoul edge. His forthcoming Late Night Soundtrack Vol.1 EP is due out on May 31st via his new label Must Make, but we’ve got the exclusive premiere on one of the EP’s metallic new tunes.
“Setting Traps” isn’t your standard drum and bass tune as it adopts a satisfyingly off-kilter time signature while Jack shows off his talents in sound design and making great use of empty space. I could hear this one being thrown into the middle of a DJ set to throw off the crowd’s dancing feet, forcing them to readjust their attention and follow a new groove. In all, this entire new EP is a wonderful treat from the man himself and “Setting Traps” is just one vital part to a larger beast of a release. Listen below and pre-order the EP here.
