The universal strength of RL Grime is his ability to fit more than one mold when it comes to being both a producer and live performer, especially within the latest tracks in his arsenal. His career really took off after the release of his VOID album in 2014, which featured his two monumental tracks “Core” and “Kingpin” featuring Big Sean — both sent a new wave of energy through the bass scene as we’d known it then. Once VOID charted as the #1 Electronic Album in the United States for over a month, RL Grime solidified his position as both a trendsetter and tastemaker within the electronic music industry.
“Pressure” is the sneak peak that truly grabbed the attention of us all in RL Grime’s Halloween VI mix from last October. As we await the release of his forthcoming album NOVA, it’s here today, in the flesh, for us to revel in. Released on WEDIDIT Records, RL Grime’s “Pressure” saws through its own bassline as it lays down copious layers of filth for anyone around to hear, feel, and try to escape from. Using eerie drum patterns, “Pressure” builds as it amplifies alongside a looping vocal chop. Around the two-and-a-half-minute mark, RL Grime has let loose within the darkness of this track and allowed an expeditious breakbeat-melody to pull you right in.
Alongside “Pressure,” RL Grime has also released “I Wanna Know” featuring Daya and “Undo” featuring Jeremih and Tory Lanez as pre-album treats. The album is expected to see features from Miguel, Julia Michaels, Chief Keef, Ty Dolla $ign, Joji, and more. He also just finished up his sold-out preceding ‘NOVA’ tour across North America.
WEDIDIT Records will be releasing RL Grime’s NOVA in full on July 27th. Get ready, because RL Grime has more in store for us than we may be able to handle. Listen to “Pressure” below.
