Since her Insurrection EP on NEST, REZZ has grown tremendously, to the point that a new subgenre of midtempo bass music has risen around her. She’s about to release her next album Certain Kind of Magic, and it features her most well-developed productions to date.
Anticipation has been brewing since REZZ announced the upcoming album with an early drop of its first single “Witching Hour,” which is absolute madness. That was followed by “H E X” with 1788-L, who’s been a rising artist in midtempo bass.
Earlier this week, I hit up the mysterious Magic Castle in Hollywood where REZZ was hosting an event to celebrate the impending release of Certain Kind of Magic. The album could be her best work yet, and among its many standouts, “Flying Octopus” was a highlight. I also got to meet some people from the Cult of REZZ while I was there, and so it must be said: REZZ has some of the best fans in the electronic music game right now.
The esoteric video for REZZ’s “Flying Octopus” finds a rather scientific octopus crafting a submarine into a spaceship with the help of some crazy friends. Watch it above. “Flying Octopus” is out now on mau5trap with Certain Kind of Magic to follow on August 3rd.
