Shogun Audio label founder and the voice behind Radio 1’s Drum & Bass show, Friction recently released the third installment of his ongoing Vs series. Vol. 3 continues a project which has the Brighton-based producer linking up with some of his favorite artists of the moment, leading with the shimmering synth magic and knock-you-on-the-floor bass frequencies of “Kinetic” alongside London’s Dimension. Friction follows the high speed joy ride of the release’s intro with a shift into even more euphoric and fast paced sunset atmospheres through his “Timelapse” collaboration with Hospital Recs mainplayer, Metrik. At this point the EP starts to take the shape of an awesome Friday night out, and Friction’s “Curfew” collab with Bournemouth duo Ulterior Motive sounds like the theme to walking through the club doors. It’s just the right amount of heavy and just the right amount of vibes. Grab a drink, catch up with some friends and scope some qts. Fast forward a few hours and “Dark Moves”, Friction’s collab with London artist Prolix, hits. At this point you’re drunk. And rowdy. And the swirling repetition of “Dark Moves”‘ acidic low-end, barking synthlines and screaming rave leads make up one hell of a way to end the night.
