The Los Angeles-based Emily Scott, known as Pale Spring, has been making her unique brand of alternative pop that survived the trip-hop scene of the early 2000s while combining it with the emotional vocal twinge of contemporary singers such as Angel Olsen and Chelsea Wolfe. This track, in particular, combines elements of trap and downtempo to create a slow-moving piece of music that is utterly heartfelt and moving in how sincere it is. Her voice, smooth as silk and filled with residual wounds, cuts through the mix with some soft effects and heightens her impassioned lyrics. Pale Spring’s album Cygnus debuts on May 31st off of the ever-growing Doom Trip Records, and it promises to be one of the better of the albums in this vein of goth-adjacent indie pop.
