Electronic experimentalist Paper Diamond released “Downfalls” featuring Polina, another song from his forthcoming 2018 album. After four years of silence, two teasers in three months is a godsend when it comes to this producer. The first, “Work 9000,” reinvigorated us to the sound of Paper Diamond — bass-infused and dynamically crafted. After such a bright surprise, we were definitely waiting for more from the man himself.
So with the release of “Downfalls” earlier this week, it all seemed to make sense. He was not simply making us wait, but designing something powerfully his own these past few years. “Downfalls” displays an artist completely aware of his musical surroundings: silky melodic undertones, courageous synths and samples, and vocals telling a story of success; each supporting one another so effortlessly that a harmonic triple-threat was present on its own.
Paper Diamond offered up a few words on the release:
“Sometimes good things take time. I decided to not rush in making this album in an attempt to make something meaningful that I truly enjoyed making, but also listening to. 2018 is the year I finally get to release all the music I’ve been holding on to these last couple of years.”
