When attempting to remix a song as iconic and formative (in this case, to the largely Skrillex-led explosion of contemporary dubstep, and electronica more broadly) as Mt. Eden‘s “Sierra Leone,” it can be very easy to make a mockery of oneself.
But just as San Holo managed with his “Don’t Touch The Classics” series of remixes, Ian Munro has really put himself out there in remixing – even in an official context, given its release by Ultra Records – such a classic record. And boy, did he deliver the goods.
This high octane remix is as heavy as it is emotional, using intensely gritty yet perfectly melodic synth work to wow listeners with a remix that feels at once nostalgic and futuristic. Talk about reviving a classic.
