Lil Baby and Gunna continue to pave their road towards a timeless sound and aesthetic in the new Daps-directed music video for “Close Friends,” which finds Lil Baby in Paris performing their proprietary fusion of rap, R&B, hip-hop, and pop. As Baby explained when sharing the video earlier today, Paris was chosen as the setting for “Close Friends” because he wanted to show off a city that “represents love and romance.” The Turbo-produced song is off Baby and Gunna’s’ 2018 collab project Drip Harder, which is reportedly getting a sequel in 2019.
Baby is so endearing in the above video, which also stars Jayda Cheaves, and I absolutely love when rappers show their softer side. It adds a new dimension of humanity to their own experience, and the Parisian backdrop adds the surprising new dimension of romance in hip-hop – here for it. Check it out above.
