The first single off the forthcoming josh pan and Dylan Brady album This Car Needs Some Wheels and the accompanying music video are upon us and it’s a beautiful madness-inducing journey. The above video for “Wheels,” which premiered on Noisey this morning, follows the both existential and extremely physical quest of an anonymous protagonist, who must dig his way out of this life. The song itself it both whimsical and eerie, a swirling paradox of bold melody and josh and Dylan’s most subtle sonic tendencies.
“Writing with Dylan feels like a structured stream of consciousness,” josh said, explaining how “Wheels” came to be. “I felt abnormally poetic that night – probably more poetic than I actually was. It’s my personal belief that you gotta be in a crazy headspace to write something memorable sometimes.” Dylan further explained, “It was about 5 AM I think. It felt like we were wrapping up, collecting ourselves. But somehow we started writing one more song. Me and josh were really in sync that night. Never really had an experience like that before.” You can feel the power of that experience in the song, which feels like it has a dubious mind of its own.
This Car Needs Some Wheels drops March 14th on OWSLA, pre-order it here. Additionally, you can scope some behind-the-scenes photos of the video shoot for “Wheels” in the gallery below courtesy of Lillie Wojcik.
