Ivy Lab are on a mission to fuck up our expectations of what a club track should be with their two new singles “Jinxed” and “Gunk” featuring IceColdBishop. “Jinxed” is a hypnotic, futuristic, midtempo breakbeat track with a deep drop, while “Gunk” is a dramatic, grimy hip-hop heater marked by a seriously sinister flow from IceColdBishop. Both of these tracks are so unusual and so complex, yet both have direct, hard-hitting grooves and vocals to go off in a club.
Ivy Lab posted the following statement along with this release, which we recommend you jump into at once:
“Following our debut album we wanted to signpost future direction whilst offering a reassurance our aesthetic won’t suffer an abrupt swerve. ‘Gunk’ and ‘Jinxed’’ are tied together by sonic heritage but set apart in the scope of their intention – one’s intended to tear up a club whilst the other crowns a new dawn of joining forces with inventive lyricists in an effort to start crafting some truly boundary-pushing experimental hip hop.
The moment our team put IceColdBishop on our radar last year, we knew we had to work with him – this dude carries an endlessly creative, adaptive and unique flow which can feel as sinister and malignant as it can breezy and mischievous. The track has an off kilter, arachnid-like movement which Bishop makes light work of nailing effortlessly amidst a threatening narrative of familial angst. He is quite simply one of the most exciting up and coming rapper prospects about.”
