In honor of Goldie basically outing Banksy as Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack in an interview last week, a long-standing theory now half-confirmed, we decided to make Massive Attack’s iconic track “Angel” the subject of this week’s Flashback. What Goldie actually said, in what was clearly an accidental dick move was, “Give me a bubble letter and put it on a T-shirt and write ‘Banksy’ on it and we’re sorted. We can sell it now,” he said. “No disrespect to Robert, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over.” A long, awkward silence followed – oh dear.
In celebration of this once-in-a-lifetime cultural faux-pas moment, here is Massive Attack’s 1998 hit “Angel” off their practically perfect album Mezzanine, featured in the 2000 film Snatch when Jason Statham is destroying an arcade in one of the film’s most badass scenes.
