San Diego-based musician and audio engineer David Lopez has been slowly rolling out music under the moniker DLA over the past several years, and with each release I feel a new sense of energy and excitement over the project as a whole. Nine months ago we had the pleasure of covering his brooding single “Talking“, and today I’m thrilled to premiere his latest single “Sidelines.”
“Sidelines” carries the same agonizing but daydreamy textures as the rest of his music thus far, but lives in an entirely new and more elaborate songwriting space. Quantized, driving drums contrast delayed and candid guitar and synth riffs that pull the listener into an easy going head bob. Eventually, the simplistic introduction and pre-choruses bleed into a beautifully chaotic final vocal chorus filled with escaping melodies and a call-and-response routine between the lines.
