Jerome LOL and Samo Sound Boy — known to most folks these days as DJDS — found themselves taking on production roles for other folks following the 2015 release of their sophomore album, Stand Up and Speak. Kanye West, The-Dream, and Khalid all reached out to the LA-based artists for help on recent projects. But this summer, the guys are back focusing on DJDS and have just released their first single of 2017 in “Trees On Fire,” a perfect crossover dance record featuring vocalists Amber Mark and Marco Mckinnis.
“The whole thing feels good,” the duo said of the new single, and it’s hard to disagree. Accessible elements of R&B and house come together in perfect harmony for a record that begs for ‘song of the summer’ mention. Its utility is multifaceted, too, as the song’s low 120BPM tempo works just as well within a groovy house set as it would on a go-to pop playlist.
