Chicago native DEATHFACE has teamed up with Long x OWSLA to deliver an hour’s worth of dark, underworld-ridden tracks that owe their existence to all sorts of sounds found in the industrial, EBM, and techno phylums. Coinciding with the release of his third album Cry for Black Dawn on Lil Death, the mixtape is rabid with raw, thrashing, classic numbers.
DEATHFACE, aka Johnny Love who was once ½ of the duo Guns ‘n’ Bombs, warps together tracks like the rock-fused “Murderous” from Nitzer Ebb, Gesaffelstein’s unrelentless “Hate Or Glory,” and Black Strobe’s remix of “Decontrol” to create a brooding techno dreamscape with absolutely no sign of sunlight.
The distillation of the sounds found in DEATHFACE’s “Sanity’s Eclipse” and Youth Cod’s “What Is The Answer” are characterized by paranoia, ferocity, and a beautiful unease. There are also the tracks like Heckmann’s “EBM 2,” The Hacker’s “Pure Energy,” and Temptation’s “Pressure” that are all unrivaled on the dancefloor thanks to their stabbing, hypnotic synth. This mix will probably take you on a journey through hazy graveyards, sweaty raves, maybe a rock club, and well, the rest is up to your imagination.
While the mixtape only features two of DEATHFACE’s new tracks, you can check out his full EP here through Long x OWSLA.
