It just doesn’t feel like the holiday season until the LuckyMe Advent Calendar opens up its annual bag of goodies. Featuring free downloads from a wide cross-section of the Glasgow-based label’s roster, past alums have included rare treats from Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Lunice, DJ Paypal, Yung Gud, Cid Rim, to name a few.
We’re only a few days into this year’s run and we’ve already received a delectable new house tune from Berlin-based producer Bwana. You may remember his label-debut, Capsule’s Pride (Bikes), the sublime Akira-inspired album that was by far one of the better albums of 2016 and the only one to merge ambient house and gamelan into something simultaneously aggressive and fragile.
Bwana’s contribution to the Advent calendar, “Choice & Consequence”, is a warm techno roller that blends elements of dustified Four Tet-style production. The synthetic crackle of vinyl, the fat string bassline, and the distant vocal sample that pierces through the chaos all give the track a vintage feeling as if Floating Points dug it deep out of his crate at 3am in (the now defunct) Plastic People. Bwana pays attention to detail, finessing the mix just so all of the layers that fall on top of each other do so in just the right way. All the organic vibes of the London club sound with the technical precision of the Berlin scene.
A cozy little techno track to warm you up during these cold winter night, be sure to pick up “Choice & Consequence” for free via the LuckyMe Advent Calendar. Be sure to follow Bwana on SoundCloud and Twitter for all the latest updates.
