London duo Bare Noize have been a staple in bass music for much of the past decade, most widely known for their 2010 collaboration “Scatta” with Skrillex and Foreign Beggars. After a year’s hiatus for independent projects, the pair are back in studio with the debut release for their newly launched imprint, LA90 Records. Teaming up with American dubstep heavyweight AFK, they share their highly anticipated single featuring vocalist Anna Yvette, “Elemental”.
The current state of dubstep is very much dominated by sound design; producers are driven more than ever to create unique wavetables and sounds unlike anything we’ve ever heard before. “Elemental”, however, feels like a tribute to the classics from Sub Focus or Chase & Status at the start of the decade, showcasing the importance of songwriting. The tune is driven by rich harmonies, as evident from Anna’s stunning vocal-work, with occasional growls thrown in to remind us of the early days of dubstep.
