Australian 25-year-old MC REMI performed “Lose Sleep” live at triple j’s Good Az Friday 2017 at the Melbourne Town Hall this past week.
Remi Kolawole’s REMI project is comprised of himself and music collaborators Sensible J and Dutch. His big break came in 2013 when he was awarded triple j’s ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year.’ By 2014, his album RAW x INFINITY won him the ‘Independent Hip Hop Album of the Year’ award by the Australian Independent Record Association. He then received the ‘Global Music Grant’ with $50,000 for his efforts.
Fast forward to today, REMI’s “Lose Sleep” preaches about the unjust battle of inequality many of us are still fighting. This is a track from Divas and Demons, Kolawole’s most recent album made of soul and sadness. Whether it’s a battle of race, the heart, or an inner struggle, REMI wants each of us to know we are not alone. In an interview with billboard, Kolawole explained that he does this in order to represent what is good in the world. By connecting cities to countries, distance won’t matter when it comes to empowering the individual to stand up for change.
With an old-school style, REMI keeps your head bobbing with smooth live instruments supporting their message. Enjoy REMI above.
