To celebrate the upcoming festivities of San Diego’s very own CRSSD Festival, Bang Bang resident DJ and crucial FNGRS CRSSD creative Lee K has offered a short list of her favorites restaurants and food spots around town. Born in the Southern California city, she has cemented herself in the music community as an expert curator, working with legends like Pete Tong, Victor Calderone, Eats Everything, MK, and more. Lee maintains the groove-driven, deep cut side of techno wherever she throws down. When it comes to food, she’s just as seasoned.
Whether you’re a long-time San Diego resident or simply flying in for the weekend, these selects will keep you happily satiated as you meander around town. You can still grab your tickets to the festival here.
1. Yellow Deli – 315 E Broadway, Vista, CA 92084
Folks who live in North County will know this one. Yellow Deli is an unmistakable, literally yellow, two story house-like structure in Vista. The food is not only delicious (grab a Green Drink if you go), but the environment is as homey as it gets. Wholesome food with folk music playing in the background. The story behind the place is equally as intriguing as the menu… Google ‘em. They’re also open 24 hours.
2. Campfire – 2725 State St, Carlsbad, CA 92008
This spot in Carlsbad opened last year and is perfect for dinner. Their menu rotates around a campfire theme, with lots of grilled, charred, blistered, etc items. I usually order a bunch of small plates (their oysters and sprouted porridge bread are always in rotation) and pair with a cocktail. “Strike Anywhere” is a favorite; it’s got matcha and cacao alongside rum.
3. The Lanai – 1114 N Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024
Hawaiian food right off the 101 in Leucadia with fresh fish as the focus. Their spicy poke bowl is what’s up and comes with simple but delicious rice crisps. Great for lunch on a nice day to eat outside on their picnic tables.
4. Juanita’s – 290 N Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024
Two words: California burrito.
5. Bang Bang – 526 Market St, San Diego, CA 92101
Last but certainly not least is the Japanese fusion restaurant that also doubles as one of the better clubs in San Diego. My go-to here are the tuna tartare tacos, salmon sashimi, and fried rice. Come for the food, stay for the music.
