Yes, folks, it’s true: OWSLA has gone house.
Curated by label head Skrillex alongside Chris Lake, who was enshrined into the OWSLA squad during the Europe tour, HOWSLA, as the label’s next compilation is called, embodies the identity of OWSLA while inheriting its core sensibilities in service of house music, the original genre of dance music.
The HOWSLA campaign kicks off with Chris Lake’s “I Want You”, a delectable, uproarious single. “I Want You” is one of the most aggressively play-tested tracks in recent memory, evolving from a searing tech-house jam played in 2015 at the Mixmag lab into the universal heater it remains today, all the while retaining that infectious hook of the track’s heart: “I want you and you want me too.” You can watch its zombified video above.
It’s the follow-up to “Operator (Ring Ring)”, Chris Lake’s previous smash, which was recognized by Annie Mac as the “Hottest Record In The World” and dubbed Holy Ship’s unofficial anthem. That record, which also appears on HOWSLA, has already received support from Armand Van Helden, Justin Martin, Busy P, Green Velvet and more to come.
House music has undoubtedly been revitalized by an infusion of youthful energy into the genre, and HOWSLA helps continue that momentum. The compilation will be out May 5, but the HOWSLA takeover doesn’t end there: a HOWSLA residency begins this summer at Hollywood’s Le Jardin, bringing pure, unabashed house music every other Sunday from May 28th until September 3rd.
HOWSLA Le Jardin dates:
